Working in the business environment is not an easy task. Individuals require alot of skills and knowledge while working in the business field. Especially when the individuals are looking forward to work in the international market and managing the international businesses then they need to have specific skills and knowledge. Effective skills are required for working appropriate in the international business management area. There are different skills which are required for working effectively in the international market(Brett et. al. 2020). Along with this continuous improvement in the skills and improvement is also required.
This report will explain that how the different core competencies are required while working in international management practices. The different competencies which are required for working with people belonging to different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds would be discussed in the context of the individuals. For this self-evaluation would be performed by the individual for evaluating the skills and core competencies. Along with this the report will also provide detailed knowledge related to personal development in different competencies which are important for international management. For this the personal development plan would also be developed which would help the individuals in developing the skills in an effective manner.
All the individuals are having different set of skills and knowledge which helps them in doing their work in an effective manner. For working in an international management practices there are different skills and competencies which are very significant. Working with cross-cultural situation and global business environment requires advance skills and knowledge. This report would be focusing on three most important competencies which are required for working in international management practices(Jang, 2017). The competencies such as managing cross culture, multicultural teamworking and cross culture motivation/ cross culture leadership would be discussed in this report.
In my view all the three above mentioned competencies are very crucial while working in the global world. For connecting well with others and working with better cooperation it is essential to have all these skills. I think that I need to focus on working on all these skills and competencies and these would help me in becoming more effective while working in the international market(Wang et. al. 2019). Along with this it would also help me in learning that how the culture is affecting the businesses. Moreover I would learn that how I need to work with the individuals belonging to different backgrounds which would help me in becoming a better employee for the firm.
Self-evaluation and reflecting on the skills and knowledge is very important. This helps the individuals in understanding their own core competencies and strengths related to their work. Along with this it also helps the individuals in understanding that on what different areas the individual need to work for improving their own personal skills and knowledge.There are different types of methods which can be used by the individuals which can help them in self-evaluation.
I would be focusing on conducted the self-evaluation with the help of personal SWOT analysis which would help me in better analysis. SWOT analysis is an effective method which would help me in understanding my strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats related to the different competencies which are required for becoming an successful employee in international management.For me there would be different opportunities and challenges while working in the global or the international business world. This analysis would be help in developing better knowledge related to the skills which are required to become effective in the international market.
Managing the business across the different cultures need different skills and knowledge. The individual need to have better knowledge related to understanding the different cultures. This is important for valuing all the different culture and managing the cross cultures in an effective manner. The employees working in international business need to focus on paying attention on cultural differences while working with people belonging to different cultural backgrounds.
According to me knowledge related to different languages, cultural values, norms and other factors which are essential for managing the cultures and people belonging to across the cultures. If i reflect on my skills then I can say that there are different strengths and weaknesses associated with this.My audit related to the skills required for managing across the cultures is mentioned below. For this personal swot is being discussed in this context such as:
Working with the different people in the team is not an easy task. One needs to have better interpersonal skills which can help them in working with others in an effective manner. When the employees work in the multicultural teams then they developing teamwork is more critical due to differences in the mindset of the team members.In this context I think that I would be working on different skills for working effectively among the multicultural teams. I think it is an effective competence which is required by employees while working in the global firms. Along with this there are different types of skills and knowledge which are related to this competence. I focus on conducting a personal SWOT analysis for identifying the strength and weakness related to this competence.
For working with multicultural teams the knowledge related to the different languages is an major issue which is required among the employees while working with people belonging to different cultures.Language plays a major role in developing effective communication among the different individuals. Due to this reason it is essential for them to have a common language that can help both of them in communicating in an effective manner. For addressing the culture and language issues within the global teams it is essential for me to have effective knowledge related to the different languages. But I am having lack of knowledge related to the different types of languages(Isariyawatet. al. 2020). Along with this I am not good at multilingual skills and this would be an important weakness for me which would create threat for me. Usually the teams are multilingual when the firms are operating at global level.
The issues and conflicts among the team members are more in the multicultural teams. But I think can react effectively in this area. I am having good communication skills and negotiation which would help me in intercultural negotiation which is required for solving the issues within the team. So I can say that this would be my strength while working in the international teams.Along with this I am having patience which would also help me in keeping calm and working on solving the issues which might arise while working with the multinational teams.
Whenever I work with other people then I have empathy towards them which helps me in cooperating with them effective. So I think that this would create better opportunities for me in managing the cross culture teams and improving by multicultural skills which are essential for working effectively in the international businesses.Ethics and values are also having an important role to play in the cross cultural management. I am having greater respect towards all the different religions and cultures(Liu and Li, 2018). This would be helping me alot in working with the multicultural teams in an effective manner. Along with this it would also help me in reducing the changes of issues and challenges while managing the multicultural teams and becoming an effective employee for the future firm in which I would be working.
Motivating the employees working in the cross cultural teams is quite challenging for the management. All the individuals are having different mindsets based on their cultural values which shapes their ideology and values. Due to this reason the leader needs to pay attention on understanding the employees and then applied an appropriate strategies and leadership for motivating them in an successful manner.
For motivating others it is essential for the individual to develop better relations with others and should try to connect with them. I am good at communicating with others and connecting them easily. This would be my strength in this area which would help me understand the need and demands of others and motivating them according to it only. The companies offer different types of financial and non-financial rewards but it is essential to understand the mindset of the employees before offering them rewards. I think that one need to have effective leadership skills then only they can focus on applying the cross cultural leadership in an effective manner(Abadiret. al. 2019).
One of my weakness is that I am not having any experience of leading the teams and due to this reason I am not good at leadership skills. Also I don't have better knowledge regarding the leadership styles. I should focus on expanding my knowledge related to the different types of leadership styles such as transformational, transactional, democratic, autocratic and several other leadership style which can be applied well for managing the teams.So I need to make improvements in this sector(Tattum and Tattum, 2017). This would help me in improving my competence related to the cross cultural motivation/ cross culture leadership in an effective manner.I am not good at decision making and problem solving and these two skills are playing an significant role in leadership. I think that these skills are also required to be developed in an effective manner otherwise these skills can create threat for me. I think that all the skills and knowledge related to the different competencies are essential for becoming an successful employee in future.
In my view there are different competencies which are required in the individuals for working effectively in the international business. But with the increasing globalisation and cross cultural trade greater importance is being given to the skills and competencies related to this. I think that there are different competencies such as cultural intelligence, managing across cultures, communicating across the cultures, multicultural teams, cross cultural motivation/cross cultural leadership and the ethical and sustainability management practices(Batsaet. al. 2020). For working in the international firms one needs to have great knowledge and skills that can help then in remaining effective in the industry and gaining competitive advantage over others employees in the firm.
It is important for the individual to paya attention on the development of the important skills which can help them in getting the job. Also these skills would be helping me alot in becoming an successful employee in the international business. For this I have focuses on self evaluation which had helped me alot in analysis my own skills and knowledge related to the different important topics or the competencies which are very important for working effectively in the international business environments(Ward et. al. 2018). Based on the results of the self evaluation I have decided that I would be focusing on working all the weaknesses and expanding my knowledge related to these topics in an effective manner. For better understanding of the topics the support from the literature review would be taken so that it would help me understand the concepts related to these competencies in an efficient manner.
Effective motivation of the employees is very important when the employees are belonging to the different backgrounds. In this situation it becomes difficult for the firm to create positive relationships with their employees and connecting well with them which can help them in developing the feeling of belonging among the employees towards the company. For this the use of better strategies and models are required which can help the firm's in managing the cross cultural teams in an effective manner.
Lussier (2019) had stated that it is essential for the firms to apply effective motivation strategies which can help the firm's in motivating the employees in an effective manner. Maslow's theory of motivation is an effective strategy or the model. This can help the leaders in meeting the needs of the employees. This can help them in motivating all the employees in an effective manner which is essential for better performance of the firm in the international markets. Thus the report had concluded that it is crucial for the firms to pay attention on their motivational strategies which can help them in managing the employees belonging to different cultures in an efficient manner.
Budur (2020) had stated that leadership style applied on the employees while motivating them is having an major role to play. For this the researcher had conducted an study for exploring the influence of the transformational leadership among the different cultures. The results of the study had showed that it is effective leadership style which is widely used by the leader for influencing the employees. From this it can be concluded that transformation leadership can be adopted by the leader for leading the cross cultural teams. This can help them in motivating the employees in an effective manner and managing them in an appropriate way.
Bonsu, et. al. (2018) had stated that leadership is having an major role to play in the performance of the international firm. Due to this reason the leader needs to make better skills and knowledge which can help them in becoming an successful leader for an international firm. The study had suggested that for the cross culture the transformational leadership is effective. The report concluded that the international firms needs to make effective leaders otherwise the firm will not be able to manage the cross cultural employees effectively and would not be able to motivate them properly to deliver better performance to the firm.

They have explained that as per the different cultures the belief and values are different for all the employees. Due to this reason it is essential for the leader to understand the employees before applying the leadership style on time. This would help the leader in motivating and leading employees and managing the international business in an effective manner.
Vigier, et. al. (2017) had stated that the firm's needs to pay attention on the language while operating in the global environment. The overall productivity of the team depends on their communication and information sharing. Due to this reason it is required that the team members should have to focus on asymmetries in their language while working in the culturally diverse teams. For managing the linguistic diversity all the employees and the team members are required to have better knowledge related to the different languages. This can help them in proper information sharing in the cross cultural teams. This would enhance the overall performance of the team which is essential for better management of the international firms.
Hoch and Dulebohn, (2017) had stated regarding the different skills which are required for managing the virtual teams in the organization.Effective leadership skills, communication skills, cultural intelligence, self management skills and several other abilities are required for managing the teams in an effective manner. The individual need to have great knowledge related to the multilingual settings and multicultural teams which can help them in expanding their knowledge related to the different cultures. This would help them in developing these competencies which are required for paying attention on better management of the culture abilities and teams across the nations.
From the literature mentioned above it can be said that there are diverse skills that are required for better management of the multicultural teams. Along with this the communication skills, self learning skills, self reflection on the experience, multilingual knowledge and great skills related to the cultural knowledge are required. So it is essential for the individual to focus on working on their skills which can help them in self improvement.
On the basis of the self evaluation done regarding the different competencies required for the management of the teams while working in an international firm. The skills such as communication skills, linguistic knowledge,self-learning, decision making skills, leadership skills, empathy and several other skills are required for working in an effective manner. Thus it is essential to develop a personal development plan which would help me in working on all these skills which are essential for better management of the international firms. Along with this I need to focus on developing self-reflection skills which would help me in the continuous improvement(Sica and Sestito, 2021). When the individuals are working on their own skills then it helps them in understanding themselves and better self-evaluation which is required for continuously improving the skills and knowledge related to the employment.
The development plan need to be very specific which can help the individuals in making effective improvement. Due to this reason I have decided to focus on the be very specific and should set up a time frame for the development plan. The development plan would ensure that all the factors would be taken care properly. I would be developed specific objectives for myself which will help me in working on my different skills and especially on the weakness related to the different competencies which are required for becoming an successful employee in the international firm(Nassouet. al. 2020).For improving the skills different activities would be performed which can help me in expanding my knowledge in this context. Also this would help me in understanding that how I can work on my own skills for becoming an successful employee in future.
There are different objectives on which the personal development plan would be based on. The smart objectives would help the individuals in developing better skills and following the development plan in an time bound and specific period. Also this would help me in working effectively towards the development of the skills and competencies related to the working in the international firms in cross cultural teams. The different objectives related to my personal development of the weaknesses identified in the self-evaluation are mentioned below:
