The purpose of self-reflection is to identify the level of personal development that focuses on gaining self-awareness to achieve deeper learning as it will improve the understanding level of individuals and support in making improvements timely. The following assessment aims to analyse evaluated by understanding regarding series of tasks that I have completed during my course mental health and wellbeing and by consideration across life courses and the analysis of case studies to understand my development level for future work placement. It is a self-reflection document in which I will analyse my development as a practitioner in Mental Health and positive psychology in which I will demonstrate my understanding throughout the Life course and different approaches. This self-reflection assessment is important to create awareness for myself regarding my development as a positive psychology practitioner and the process of understanding my future requirements and development needs for being placed professionally (Ardelt and Grunwald, 2018). In this document, I will provide self-reflection regarding personal development in different categories including personal development through self-assessment in subject and surveys and questionnaire-based activities. I will also reflect on explored case studies and theoretical approaches during the course to make them applicable in the present and future context.
During the mental health and social care course, I have gone through several topics regarding mental health and positive psychology. I have learned about different trends of European mental health and the UK mental health Trends by analysing relevant data. There are different legislation regarding mental illness and acts to support the psychological health of people within the region and positive psychology (Potter et al, 2019). I have gone through several assessments and tasks during the course and took several suggestions regarding different approaches like the care program approach, mental health during the life course, etc. I have also understood the principles of resilience, hope, and recovery by analysing different case studies in the context of Mental Health.
After learning basic concepts of positive psychology, I feel that good mental health is a basic human requirement. I have identified that positive psychology is an important part of overall good mental health as similar to Physical health because it creates connections among people and makes extensions of communities in the wider environment. Mental health is subjective to different problems faced by individuals during the different stages of life (Yu, 2018). I felt that a combination of different factors is responsible for mental well-being such as Optimism, life satisfaction, sense of support, belonging and self-esteem, etc. Resilience is the capability of an individual to recover from misfortune, adversity, and frustration. I feel the importance of resilience to make people recover from Life trauma and mental distress.
The best part of my journey during this course was the understanding of so many concepts about mental health and positive psychology and the insights into important factors that impact individual life. I have appropriately understood the spiritual phenomena combined with biopsychosocial factors that result in resilience. However, the difficult part during my academic journey in this course was analysing the process of applying the care program approach properly and coping up with trends. The appropriate understanding of different approaches is essential in the mental health area because the efficiency of the individual to understand the perspective of the patient improves his or her capabilities to provide health care services effectively (Stephan, 2018). I believe that I could perform better during the course by analysing the theories and approaches from a different perspective and in different situations with the help of case studies and other support material.
To conclude, by self-development during the course sessions and topics I was good however I required more effort to achieve a better performance level in upcoming assessments. My goal for future work placement includes gaining a better understanding of programs and approaches to support individuals throughout the mental health and positive psychology process using PPD (Nolan and Molla, 2019). For achieving my goals, I will analyse the approaches and trends more appropriately and will increase my efforts in practicing rather than learning theoretically. For example, I will analyse the role of different approaches in different situations to understand the requirements of the patient and the needed support according to trends. I will also go through different legislations and legal policies of Health and mental care to improve the integrity while providing care in my future workplace.
Self-assessment tools like questionnaire-based activities and the surveys supports individual in identifying their personality and abilities to achieve their goals by self-diagnosis system (Andersson et al, 2017). These assessments and activities are responsible to help individuals in getting aware of their weaknesses and strength regarding particular concept and it provides them with relevant solution to achieve goals. During the course I have come across different type of surveys and activities regarding the process of evaluating happiness among individuals during positive psychology session, understanding of character strength and resilience understanding. I have also gone through different activities such as comparison between European friends for mental health, case study analysis and care approaches.
The analysis of happiness is one of the important concepts of positive psychology that is divided into two categories of evaluating happiness i.e., hedonic and eudaimonic. The hedonic happiness can be defined as the happiness that came from experiences of enjoyment and pleasure. On the other hand, the eudaimonic happiness developed through the achievement of purpose and meaningful experience in life (Nikolaev, 2018). True happiness survey I have a feeling that people tend to be happier in terms of achievement of meaningful purposes rather than sense of pleasure or enjoyment. With the help of resilience survey, I have identified that I am an emotional kind of people but I have the capability to bounce back from problems and frustration to achieve my realistic and positive goals efficiently. I feel that the personality is one of the important parts of resilience and it affected by different life stages including childhood and adulthood as well as present living environment. By character strengths survey I have identified my strength and analysed that my critical skills are not applied regularly in my university life which are important to achieve my desired academic goal.
I have performed well during different activities and survey analysis of course. Although, I have identified some of my capabilities like critical thinking and interpersonal practices are not utilising appropriately during university life. The appropriate implementation of skills is important to make them more perfect and achieving relevant to benefits in different areas of life. It can be concluded that self-assessment tools like surveys and questionnaires-based activity is supported my personal development effectively as they informed me about my strength and weaknesses and the particular aspects that I should use to achieve goals with more efficiency (Yan, 2020). It is also concluding that the survey and self-assessment criteria and activities are important for individual to analyse himself and make necessary changes in personal and professional development process.
In order to overcome from my identified weaknesses, I will develop a self-development plan in which I will include all the activities that I should perform and practice in order to improve my efficiency in future work placement. I will work on my hidden capabilities to utilise them for my professional development and providing highly efficient health and mental care among relevant people. The personal & professional development plan will include the strategies and time line to accomplish skills properly in given timeline that will also help me in managing time and productivity.
The understanding of Mental Health approaches and theory is required for appropriate understanding of application as well because without appropriate practices and individual cannot provide desired level of care among people (Mukhtar, 2020). I have to learn about different approaches and theories of Health and well-being during the course sessions. For example, I have explored the attachment theory regarding infancy that focus on the impacts on mental health of individual since birth, care program approach, appreciative injury approach, positive psychology approach, psychological capital and abundance approach. I have also gone through different case studies to understand the context of each approach and the subjectivity of situations in different situations of Health and mental wellbeing.
The attachment theory can be defined as the study of evolutionary development of human beings concerning their relationships since different stages of their life (Purtle et al, 2020). I feel that the upbringing of an individual plays the most important role in shaping their psychological health and personality that result in their future perceptions towards managing their health. I have understood the purpose of strength-based approaches for health and well-being that focuses on promoting inherent strength among families, communities and individuals to create self-empowerment and determination for achieving overall health and Wellness. I feel that these approaches are important for individuals and families to get familiar rise with their inherent strength to deploy recovery and empowerment throughout groups and different organisations by embracing positive goal achievement with asset-based process. I feel that Case studies helped in understanding the importance of positive psychology culture diversity throughout management of risk to proceed with gender equality. I have also gone through mindfulness module that supported in understanding the different categories to create intensive awareness among individuals regarding the sensors of moment and making is successful and positive judgement.
The best process that I have accomplished it during my personal development as a practitioner while exploring different theoretical approaches and case studies in the course is the analysis of different factors in different situation (Purtle et al, 2020). Although I believe that I need more sensitive understanding to analyse the situation of people in different contexts and for applying appropriate approach to resolve their mental health and wellbeing issues properly. I feel problems while applying different theories into different situations that surely requires further efforts become successful practitioner of Mental Health and wellbeing. I believe that it is important to understand the situations and approaches properly because an individual is emotionally and mentally connected with different factors and it may influence their overall life positively or negatively. I have to learn about the different theories and approaches during the course that has the potential to create extraordinary skills in my personality to become a successful practitioner in the sector. The gaps in approaches and application required proper planning and process to become efficient in the context (Mukhtar, 2020). It is important to analyse the different theories properly to apply them for different patients properly and provide them with appropriate care and process.
My future plan to personal development as a practitioner in the health sector include multiple steps and process. It is essential to have an appropriate plan and simple process for achieving professional goals with academic practices as it improves the individual capabilities and employability skills to provide appropriate level of care. I will first work on priority competencies and regularly support from self-assessment practices. I will utilise the result to improve my strength and address my weaknesses to become successful practitioner in health. I will also take feedback on my performance and lead review process for continuous professional development.
The themes and topics including practices and approaches of this course has supported in several skill development and resulted in self-realization. It is concluded that I have learnt several things from those sessions and topic such as use different psychological approaches like resilience, happiness survey and attachment theory, etc. However, I require more efforts to create professional level competencies in providing Mental Health Care. I believe that recovery and empowerment of an individual is based on the application of appropriate psychological approaches. It is also concluding that the case study activity is played important role in understanding the approaches and theories of course regarding mental health and wellbeing effectively. It is identified that mindfulness module supported in managing appropriate guidelines to support health and wellbeing of body and mind and reduce stress among suffering people. It is concluding that by utilising action plans I will become professionally developed by working on my weaknesses and improving my practice-based performance.
