The rise of digitalisation has caught the world by a storm as it seems that almost all of the firms have adopted technology into their processes. This has become an important area as it shows that there would be better products and services to be introduced. Digitalisation has also made its way into the education sector as it has provided new ways for learning that can be done. This has helped to make that the knowledge which is being imparted is done through the use of technology hence making it higher in quality. Though this can be argued that some factors prove such a statement to be incorrect. On the contrary, this research will highlight how the introduction of technology has changed the way of learning for middle-aged children. The level of attention span would be measured and also how supportive learning would be helped accordingly. Offline learning means that a student is physically present in the classroom and a teacher can identify which student is paying attention and not. The concept of personal touch has been added here.
Key Words
“Influence of Online Learning and Offline Learning – Measuring Attention span among Children in Middle Childhood.”
The whole research paper is going to be based on the above area for expansion as it helps to understand whether the children within middle childhood have been affected by the number of technologies that have arisen within the education sector. This is important to be looked at because imparting knowledge to the young generation in the correct and right amount would help them to make sure that there is the knowledge that is being effectively provided (Kumi–Yeboah et al., 2018). The attention span is a key factor within this research as middle childhood is such an age group in which seeing what their behaviour is would affect their studies accordingly.
To further dwell on the aim, the factor of COVID 19 would also come into play. This is because it was during this period that there was a lockdown imposed due to which more and more children had to opt for digital learning to take place. More and more children are present online and it is through this that there would be a better outline of how to manage their education accordingly. The concept of e-learning has risen to new heights through which there can be a better and clearer outline given of how to take on regarding imparting of education to middle childhood children (Dong et al., 2020).
According to Raja, and Nagasubramani, (2018) it seems that the use of technology has been a boon for the education sector as it has provided a large number of benefits. By the use of qualitative data collection, one of the areas that were found out is that through technology, the use of the internet can be done at any time. This has denoted that there can be learning done outside of a class when a student might have questions and they would not have to wait for the next day to ask it in school. The findings within the paper have also shown that it is through ICT that active learning has taken place. This has enabled that students would be able to learn at their own pace hence making sure to understand the basics so that later on it can be helpful for further work to be done. Another area of identification that can be made within the article is that since students are on their phones all the time, the introduction of education within it would help to provide a clear outline of how to manage the work being done. This helps to show that there has been a beneficial impact that technology has had on the education sector as it provides a better way of learning.
Author Wang, (2019) has also agreed with the above authors as in the article it was shown how technology has enhanced the way that education has increased the amount of knowledge that is imparted. However, the findings have represented that modern education technology has also provided the interest of teachers as new teaching models have been also launched. The findings have shown that the digital multimedia teaching mode has been adopted. The educational theory takes place within this teaching mode as it shows that there would be more outline of what can be the various areas that are shown for further work to be done. It seems that teachers can help to increase the outline of how to manage the various workplaces like making sure that new concepts can be explained with the help of technology.
On the other hand, Alhumaid, (2019) has shown a negative side of the usage of technology within the education sector. The use of literature review is being done to collect data within this article. Within the findings is was seen that children seem to be missing out upon the social interactions they have. This is important to be looked at because it seems that without having social interaction face to face, online classes would not help to increase the motivation accordingly. Another negative factor that is present here is that there is the deterioration of students' competencies are decreased. This is because it seems that while students are studying on the internet there are several off-track areas that they can go onto as supposed to learn from a book. This article has shown that the rise of technology in education might not be such a good idea after all.
According to Tumwesige, (2020) it seems that the rise of e-learning has been done because there have been several public health emergencies that have been done. It seems that there would be a huge area for work to be done hence showing that COVID has caused a huge disruption within the learning process. It is due to COVID 19 that there had been a high number of online classes that have been held. The method that was used here is the use of secondary sources such as grey literature and databases. There was a huge barrier that had been presented by COVID 19 but it seems that the use of technology has provided a clear solution for this. The use of online learning has helped to make sure that students would be able to achieve education whilst they are at home. There can be better creation of what can be the different areas for development through online learning to be achieved.
Authors Flynn et al., (2021) has taken a different approach as they have shown that middle childhood is an age where there is a focus on several activities and less upon education. The method used to collect data was qualitative in which a literature review was used. The findings within the article have outlined that children aged between 6-12 years old had taken into account because it seems that they are more importantly playing into videogames and not focusing on their studies. For this, teachers have started to use educational games within the classroom. This has provided a huge area of what can be the various areas for improvement as it shows that there would need to be further e-learning to be done accordingly. From this, it can be understood that the context of games teaching can be provided to students so that they can help to increase the learning that is being done. Students are taking more part in this concept as they are interested in such games.
Authors Tena et al., (2019) has agreed with authors Flynn et al., (2021) as the article agrees that children seem to be spending a lot of time on games and in from of the TV. The data collection method that was used within this study was a survey as it seemed that there would be better alignment of the work being done. The survey was provided to the parents as it seems that there would be clear identification of how much time children spend time in front of the screen. The findings have shown that students would help to show that there is a clear outline of seeing that e-learning would be beneficial here. This is necessary as it shows that children can spend time in front of the screen but it would be for an educational purpose.
According to Balan et al., (2020) it seems that online learning has caused a change within the attention span of individuals. For this research, 253 college students were taken into account. The findings have represented that the attention span has increased by online learning and if this is done within groups then there would be a higher motivational level that is expected. This also takes into account that there would be different ways of teaching that should be done. By doing this there is a higher level of teaching that is done in online learning then it would attract a large number of students. From this article, it can be seen that the attention span of students can be increased by online learning to be achieved. Hence, there would have to be a better outline created according to the level of education that is being provided. This is an important area to be looked at because it is how much attention they are giving to studying is going to increase as well.
It seems that having an attention span is important as children in the years 6-15 seem to be having to be able to stay within a single spot for a long time regarding their studies. This is important to be looked at because having problems during lectures would lead to further issues arising in the activities done later on in various classes. The attention capacity of such children is very short and to keep them glued to the work would not be an easy task at hand.
In the article presented by Pei and Wu, (2019), it seems that there is not a clear distinction that can be made to prove that offline learning is indeed better than online learning. The use of a quantitative data collection and meta-analysis technique was adopted within this research in which 4 data bases were used. It was found out that offline learning does not seem to be providing too much of an advantage over online learning but on the other hand there are many benefits that can be achieved through online learning.
The method that will be used for data collection here is that quantitative data collection methodology. This method has been adopted as it is a primary source of data collection which is a raw source of data that can be used. It is through the use of such that current information from the market can be collected. The use of such a method would also make sure that its analysis process would not take too much time to be done. The findings that are represented within such a method would help to create an outline of what can be the different areas for further products to be done. The reliability of data is high in the method as it shows that there would be further analyzed for increased access to the work (Moises, 2020). There would also be a large number of contestants who can be looked at here because it is through this that there would be proper identification of the aim and achievement of the research questions that have been set out.
The use of a random sampling method will be done in order to collect data from various sources. The participants that are going to be involved in this study are aged from the years 5-12. This age group has been specifically taken into account for the research being done as it is this group's attention span that needs to be focused upon. The attention span of such an age group is hard to capture in the learning environment as there are many areas that the mind wanders. It should also be understood here that such an age group is also jacked up on the internet daily. Hence, to understand ion how technology affects the attention span would be learnt through this research that needs to be carried out. Also, such an age has been taken as it since the pandemic had occurred, the education sector had taken a huge hit due to which many changes were incurred and in one of them, the use of online learning was presented. This age group had to look at a new way of learning that was done at such a young age hence proper outline of what would be achieved from the research.
The use of a questionnaire will be done in which there would be several questions that would be asked to the participants. This is important so that first-hand data about the work can be analysed accordingly. The questions would be set out in such a manner that they can be understood by all of the participants that have been chosen. For this, all of the questionnaires would be mailed to the participants so that they can be answered when the participants are free (Cornejo et al., 2018). It should be understood that the parents of the participants would also be informed about this research so that they can also help the children to make sure that proper answering of the questions can be done.
Draft of Questionnaire
Question 1: Has online education provided better knowledge? Yes No Question 2: Do you spend more time one learning through online classes? Yes No Question 3: Do you like to study in class or at home on online classes? School Home (Online Classes) Question 4: Where are more skills developed? School Home (Online Classes) Question 5: Where is there a more personal touch that is provided? School Home (Online Classes) |
The above is just a brief view of the questionnaire that is being prepared.
Procedure
Firstly, various schools will be contacted in order to achieve information about children and whether they can be used for this research or not. Parent’s numbers would be taken and it is through this that confirmation that the children will be able to answer such questions. This is important as the age group that has been taken is low and parents’ conformity would have to be taken. The questionnaire will be mailed to the parents who will share it with their children. This might be a long process but it shows that an ethical nature is being adopted here.
To analyse the data the use of charts and graphs would be done in order to show the percentile frequencies that are occuring. This would help to visualise the data more clearly so that there can be the identification of whether there is a clear idea on how to manage what had been shown. The use of graphs would show how the attention span has to be looked at regarding the use of technology within the education sector. It would also help to see that there can be a comparison made between the literature review and data that has been collected accordingly (Dong et al., 2019). This type of data analysis helps to show that there is a practice of seeing that all of the data is represented in such a manner that all of the audience would be understanding it.
Ethics is an important concept to be looked at as there are children that are going to be taken into account for the research. The first thing that will be done is that here is that there will consent taken from the head of the schools as well as the parents. This is important as children would not have too much of an idea of what they might be getting into hence this is a key area to be considered. This has been also mentioned in the procedure section also.
The limitation here is that this study is only targeted a young age while the span time can be further looked at within the college students as well. This is necessary to be looked at and this is the main area that has been the limitation of the study.
Through the findings, it would be seen whether the data collected is effective or not. This would be compared to what is already present within the market through the literature review and what has been achieved through the analysis that was done. The findings help to clear out what is the attention span for online learning that will take place. Further on it seems that through the findings there would be answering the research questions hence showing what has been achieved from the analysis that was done. It helps to understand how there is a clear function for further development to be done (Riedling, 2020).
The outcome of this research will result in showing whether technology does have a high impact on technology. The first outcome that will be looked at is is to see how the attention span would increase or decrease. This is important to be looked at because it shows that there is a clear identification on how to see whether technology should be used in education or not. The attention span would measure in showing what the differences are areas for functions that can be shown accordingly.
The second outcome would help to show how technology has been accepted in the education sector. This is important because there have been various areas that have been improved by technology in the education sector and it is through this that there can only be further achievement has done (Daniela et al., 2018). To see that there is a clear verification on seeing how technology can be either better for the education sector or how it can be less effective. If technology does increase the attention span then there it would be a breakthrough as for such an age group there is not too much information that is present within the market.
The impact here would be that there is a huge development area for such students. It is not known when another pandemic like COVID 19 would be faced and when students have to face more online learning to be looked at. Such an age group is volatile as they might have a hard time grasping such a concept as it is a change which they are not comfortable with.
Conclusion
The research needs to be carried out as it is looking at an area that is to be researched upon that was not originally looked at within the market. There have been very few researches that are available on the topic that has been taken hence it would provide new insight on what has to be achieved.
