The condition of a human being indicating an inferior health condition due to some disease or impairment of the functioning in the body that affects physical and mental well-beingis referred as illness. (Nordenfelt, 2017). Health promotion is the process that is used for increasing the awareness among people regarding different ill-health conditions so that they can control their health conditions and their determinants as well as improve their health in an effective manner (Price-Robertsonet al. 2017).

The following essay will discuss the processes which are used for the development of the resources (Poster) andthe concept of health and wellbeing as well as the principles of health promotion. This essay will also discuss the application of health promotion strategies and communication theories that can affect the lives of people across their life span(Nordenfelt, 2017).

The nursing associates play a vital role in health promotion as they work with people of all ages from child to old age and help them to achieve complex clinical care (Blakeet al. 2017). The nursing associates very closely with all the age groups and this is the reason they have the chance to interact with the people closely which helps them to convey the ways through which people can maintain a healthy lifestyle to avoid ill-health conditions. Nursing associates have opportunity to influence people as well as the whole healthcare unit by continuously serving their needs and promoting self-care for better results of treatment and scope for sustaining the results in their lifespan(Price-Robertson et al. 2017).

Discussion of the processes used to develop the resources

Concept of health and wellbeing and principles of health promotion

Health and wellbeing are described as the condition of a person who can achieve and maintain physical and mental fitness (Wingert and Hale, 2020). According to World Health Organization, Health is defined as a complete mental, physical and social wellbeing and not only with the absence of any disease. The definition differs from the traditional medical approach as it constitutes the biopsychosocial model of health which takes into account different factors such as psychological, physical, and social factors of health and illness. The World Health Organization has exclusively articulated the links of health with wellbeing in which wellbeing refers to a positive state framing health as a positive aspiration. In other words, wellbeing refers to a state of a positive outcome that is meaningful for the people(Wingert and Hale, 2020).

The principles of health promotion are as following

  • Empowerment: Empowerment refers to the feeling in the patient to participate in his/her own healthcare. This can only be possible if he/she knows about the factors, treatment, and other vital elements of health at least briefly. For example, a patient suffering from diabetes knows what food items need to be avoided or included in the diet. He is also informed through health promotion techniques that how he/she should address stressful conditions. These techniques can also include demonstration or activities like daily Yoga or meditation. Ping-pong theory of communication can help to empower patients in sel-care and adopting healthy practices for lifetime.
  • Holistic:Holistic care refers to the overall treatment of a patient including social, emotional, physical, and mental well-being. People suffering from dementia need for continuous monitoring by nurses and bull-eye communication can help these patients because they cannot retain information so they must be communicated regularly and reminded of their goals and activities such as doing physical exercise and taking medicines(Woodall et al. 2018).
  • Equitable: Fair treatment and unbiased care is embedded in the principle of equity. Patients need to be treated fairly by healthcare practitioners and taken care of by nurse associates. Policy making is the apt strategy along with using social exchange theory of communication(Woodall et al. 2018).
  • Sustainable:Sustainability is the longevity of health promotion’s goal of ensuring optimum care of the patient. This principle includes a blend of health promotional techniques so that the health of patients withstands adversities. For example, in the covid pandemic, people with lung diseases or other chronic diseases were the most vulnerable. (Woodall et al. 2018). For them, social exchange theory of communication was used to ensure that their needs are fulfilled and they do not feel dejected and compromise their self-care habits.

Resources

Personnel, consumables, premises, educational materials, and technology are some of the resources which are chosen for the health promotion activities. The personnel who are working in the healthcare department have adequate knowledge to share product insights with the public which can help them to enhance their healthcare condition (Kavanaghet al. 2020). The usage of the licensed premises for the health promotion provides greater opportunity to make the health promotion stronger Educational materials are used as teaching aids for the targeted group of people (Forster-Coxet al.2019).

The use of the local and national as well as the societal-level information for the development of the health promotion activity aided decision-making as it provided the relevant data about the diseases and physical as well as mental issues that people in each locality are facing. This information helped in the use of the different resources for the development of health promotion activities (Forster-Cox et al. 2019).

Importance of nursing associates in recognizing opportunities to promote health and prevent ill-health

As a nursing associate, I need to work in a team for facilitating the use of my knowledge and aid decision making regarding optimum healthcare and promotion by evaluating situations and different conditions (Glasper, 2018). Health promotion needs determination and continuity. The focus must be on building a healthy lifestyle by the patient to attain self-efficacy. Teamwork is required for promoting health for holistic overview of patient’s condition and as an associate, I try to listen and analyze the implication of a health promotional strategy on the patient. Providing the people with the information and potential tools which can help them to keep themselves healthy and prevent ill-health conditions is the way which is used by the nursing associates after recognizing the opportunities (Giddings, 2020).

The benefits of health promotion include changes in lifestyle of the patient and greater motivation to fulfill their health-related motives. Communicating health consequences of specific habits and how to overcome it by switching it with better alternative has positive impact on patients. Reducing alcohol consumption, including physical exercise in routine has positive impact for lifetime. The other activity associated with health promotion is education which helps in increasing knowledge resulting in empowered actions and change in behavior(Glasper, 2018). Campaigns on obesity, mental health, and CVD helps spreading awareness among public. This includes promoting healthy lifestyle choices from long-term perspective, it includes changes in daily diet and taking healthy measures by switching to better alternatives (Giddings, 2020).

In a health promotion campaign, the stakeholders support the evaluation of the campaign and act based on the results of the information and the recommendations for the health of the people. Without proper involvement of the stakeholders the health promotion program will be criticized and the people will not follow the recommendations given in the promotion activity and it will be ignored (Damari et al. 2020).

Stakeholders of the campaign are directly involved in the formulation, execution, and outcome of the health promotion campaign. These are undertaken either by the government or NGOs for facilitating awareness regarding a specific health disease or condition(Kavanagh et al. 2020). The key stakeholders include those who are involved in the campaign such as management, partners, funding agencies. It also includes those who are affected by the program such as patients or clients and those who have intended users of the outcome of the health promotion campaign such as people involved in the decision making of the program(Damari et al. 2020).

Stakeholders use communication for facilitating information in the premises and among general public. Social marketing communication is used to change people’s perception and behavior regarding their overall health. Social marketing is the process wherein the communicator aims at inculcating better habits and choices regarding health of general public. Social marketing communication will enable patients to participate in their own care and treatment and will facilitate sustainability by better engagement from both sides(Kubzansky et al. 2018).

The stakeholder who are sponsoring or funding the program help the campaign toreach its goal. The involvement of stakeholders in health promotion campaigns helps in ensuring the real need of the campaign is identified and prioritized. It also makes the campaign accountable to the stakeholder involved. Furthermore, it increases the sense of ownership among the stakeholders as their views and opinions are considered which motivates them to sponsor the campaign. There are few disadvantages associated with sponsorship as it can be time-consuming and prove to be expensive for stakeholders(Haber, 2019).

For holistic care to attain benefits of care in lifespan of patients and public, practitioners need to be trained and motivated for maintaining healthy environment for patients so they can learn, adapt to new habits and become more active and positive regarding their care(Gregg and Shaw, 2017).

Discussing the application of health promotion strategies

Health promotion is very relevant in today's time and it is observed that diabetes level 2 is considered as one of the major chronic diseases which is affecting the lives of the people and this is the reason the health promotion is conducted for the people. The health promotion strategies which are used for increasing the awareness among the people for reducing the chances of diabetes hampering the lives of the people are healthy public policy, strengthen community action, and reorient health services(Kubzanskyet al. 2018). Healthy public policies will serve as pillars to guide habits and choices of public like mandating physical exercise in schools and NGOs.(Haber, 2019). Community action strengthening will enable a mass movement to facilitate care among patients and public. This will include scale-level shift in some common habits like morning walk or exercise will be a part of their morning ritual. This will help a major shift in lifetime care of patients. Reorient health services will focus on amendments in existing healthcare structure for supporting health promotion and preventive measures. These will focus on diabetic patients mainly and will include activities such as socializing and Yoga centers for dealing with daily life stress (JS, 2016).

With the help of the analysis of the KSDP diabetes prevention project which was held in Canada was used as an example for enhancing the ability to manage the community-level health promotion projects effectively. The concept of the health settings was very useful in effectively managing the campaign as it provides several insights related to the prevention of the diseases in an accurate manner (Gregg and Shaw, 2017). For leading and managing the campaign processes the use of the focusing resources on effective school health was conducted to support the child health to avoid the chances of diabetic conditions in the future and for the adult's healthy workplace envision was managed effectively. The avoidance of junk food during working hours and healthy workplace environments can bring better health outcomes for the people and this information is spread in a detailed manner as the consumption of the snacks is very much higher during the working hours (JS, 2016).

Conclusion

This essay concludes that health promotion is very essential as it will provide the people with the idea about the ways through which can maintain their health and prevent the ill-health condition. This is also concluded in this essay that the nursing associate plays a very essential role as they provide complex clinical care to the patients and interact with them which provides them with the opportunity to recognize the opportunity to identify the needs of the people to stay healthy for a longer period. It is recommended that the health promotion programs are needed to be developed on a cultural geographical basis which will help them to understand the cultural and geographical cause affecting the health and the people.
