Introduction

Main Body

During this module I got significant opportunities for enhancing own learning related to Health and Social Care [HSC] context. I have become able to recognise the skills which are essential for HSC practitioners and professionals. In order to write reflection I would start with description of experience; during this module I have been given varied assignment and further I took part in different activities. I have solved varied case study based assignment that supported in gaining practical world understanding. This experience proves to be effective as this made me able to recognise my career path; in future I want to become HSC professional specialised in providing care services to old age people. Throughout this module I got to know that about importance of communication, teamwork, informational technology and leadership. I have used my learning in placement and then I realised that it is hard to integrate theoretical learning in practical environment. In my placement, I was given opportunity to support service users; there was a one patient who was suffering from dementia and he was emotionally vulnerable. I tried to interact with him however, I was not able to gain the trust of patient and this led to develop feeling of frustration in me.

However, I must say that during this situation my mentor has ensured consistent support to me; I started discussing about hobbies of patient and focused on listening rather than speaking and as a result, I was able to build therapeutic alliance with patient. This experience has taught me the importance of communication skill in HSC. I will use this learning in future as well and consequently, I will focus on developing therapeutic alliance with patients. This creates significant support for me and I would be able to develop effective interaction with patient. During this module; I have taken part in group project and this experience made me able to recognise the importance of teamwork and leadership. There were total five members in group including me and I was leader. Initially I allocated roles and responsibilities as per my own preference and this led to create dissatisfaction among team members. In order to undertake effective team management it is important to undertake discussion with team members and based on their preferences and abilities tasks should be allocated to them (Cottrell, 2024). However, my approach of allocating task created demotivation among team members and this created negative impact on team outcomes. Through this experience I realised that it is important to prioritise needs and preferences of team members as their satisfaction level creates major impact on team outcomes.

Hence, I am going to use this experience in future specifically while working in team; my core focus would be on analysing team member’s requirement and accordingly, I am going to take significant actions. Through the analysis of whole experience I have analysed varied aspects that concerned with positive as well as negative domains. There were varied situations where I felt negative and this led to reduce my self-esteem. For instance- leading team and interacting with patient created lack of self-confidence in me; however, through implication of own learning, understanding and guidance from mentors I was able to take appropriate actions and this led to create significant support for me. There is no doubt in depicting that I got significant opportunities for learning important aspects that relates with HSC. I have developed short and long-term goals while using SMART framework and this supported me in analysing the objectives that I want to achieve in my life. I have made a CV that depicts about my skills, interest and job role in which I am interested. Apart from course learning, I got the opportunity to develop in another context as well.

Moreover, I have become able to develop critical thinking skills; it is essential to have critical thinking skill specifically for HSC professionals as they have to deal with crucial situations aligning with ethical conflicts [Managing patient autonomy and undertaking best of interest decision]. In such situation it is important to analyse all factors so that appropriate decision can be integrated while supporting patient empowerment and autonomy (Martinez, 2022). I have participated in workshops and seminars where I have been given situations; through these seminars I have become able to develop important insights related to patient support. I am going to implement this learning in future and ensure effective care services to patient. This module has enabled to understand the importance of HSC; it focuses on ensuring health as well as social support to individuals (Ocloo et al, 2021). HSC provides holistic support to people and improves their health outcomes; I have learned that HSC professionals merely not limited to looking upon patients; they plays wider role that comprises with developing therapeutic alliance with patients and assuring holistic support to them (Van Deursen et al, 2021). There are certain area onto which I need to imply specific focus for improving own practices. I need to enhance certain skills such as-leadership, decision making, communication and resilience capabilities. Below mentioned is the action plan for improving own skills.

The above mentioned action plan specifying about major domains that requires to be improve; these aspects contributes in improving own future practices and therefore, I am going to implement specific focus on these areas. During this module I have realised that leadership skill is pivotal for improving own practices and therefore, I am going to ensure significant focus on this area. I will participate in leadership programmes and courses as this enables me to understand about the ways in which leadership skill could be improved and enhanced. I am going to take feedback from group members for assessing whether I am able to lead the team or not. This skill is relevant to my future profession and therefore, I am going to assure focus on this area. In order to improve decision making skill I will use my critical analysis abilities and consequently, analyse positive and negative elements of all available options (Aygün and Taşkın, 2022). Afterwards, that decision would be taken that assure wider benefits. In this manner, I will be able to take appropriate decision that meets situational requirements. I will assess the outcomes of decision as this will help me in knowing whether the taken decisions are appropriate or not.

Another skill relates with communication skill and for this I will participate in group presentation and I will present my thoughts and listens thoughts of other members. For assessing own communication ability I will take feedback from mentors and colleagues. Throughout this module I have analysed that resilience ability is highly essential and this is pivotal in HSC field. Through this skill I would be able to adapt the change; for improving this ability I will practice mindfulness and asses own emotional intelligence capabilities. This provide me idea whether I am able to enhance own resilience abilities or not. These are the major domains on-to which I am going to ensure focus and this will lead to contribute in own personal and professional development. Henceforth, I can say that this module has provided me significant opportunities in terms of improving own abilities and learning. I am going to use this learning, abilities and experience in future and significantly I would be able to take appropriate actions.

Conclusion

Conclusively; I can say that this module has provided me significant opportunities in terms of gaining personal as well as professional development. I am going to use this learning in future for improving own practices and this will enable me to implement effective interaction with patients. There are certain areas of development on-to which focus requires to be implemented and I have made an action plan for improving own skills.
