Introduction
Health promotion is the process through which the individual and community are empowered to take control of the different factors that may affect a person's health. Many kinds of issues and factors may affect a person's health. These may include factors like personal, social, behavioural, and many other types of factors. All these factors greatly affect the mental and physical health of people. Also, the current lifestyle of the people is not good and consequently, they face many different types of physical and mental health issues (Dempsey, et al., 2020). Thus, the objective of the study is to enhance the physical development of individuals and communities. The reason for selecting the current research area is that it will assist in developing knowledge relating to the importance of physical development. It is very necessary for health professionals they promote effective health. They must promote health so that community work and engagement can be improved.
The current study is based on the campaign Couch to 5K which aims at increasing knowledge relating to the importance of physical activity. Physical inactivity is a condition within which the person does not perform much of the work and has not moved the body for a long period. This may include the fact that the person is not moving physically and as a result, there are high chances of getting cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD are the major disease which leads to death and globally it is estimated that nearly 17.9 million people lose their lives due to CVD which is almost 32 % of global death in 2019 (Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), 2024). With further, research it was analysed that three-quarters of the CVD deaths are taking place within low and middle-income countries. The most common CVD issues include cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart diseases, rheumatic heart disease and many other related conditions. Thus, when the person is physically active then the chances of getting the disease will be less as the person is physically strong and they will be less prone to get the disease.
Discuss the definitions of health and ill Health and relate these to the health professions
Health is defined as the state within which the mental, physical and social well-being of the person is complete and it merely not include only the absence of disease. On the other side, ill health is defined as the state of the person within which they are suffering from any disease or any impairment due to which they are unable to function properly. For the health professional, it is necessary they effectively provide for better treatment for the ill-health so that the person can become healthy (Dempsey, et al., 2020). It is necessary for health professionals they effectively provide better treatment to patients so that they become healthy and can perform all routine tasks effectively.
Explore models of health and their impact on individuals and services
The model of health is defined as a scientific construct which is planned to effectively help the healthcare professional to effectively provide better treatment and service to the patient. When a person suffers from any disease then it impacts the physical and mental health of the person to a great extent. Thus, as a result of this, the overall efficiency of the person is improved and the model of health assists the healthcare professional they must effectively use the correct type of health model to treat the issues related to physical inactivity. In general, there are two different types of health models which can be used by healthcare professionals. These two models include the biomedical model and the biopsychosocial model (Models of Health, 2024). The biomedical model of health includes a major focus only on the biological factors which includes only focus on the physical factors of the person’s body. On the other side, the biopsychosocial model is the one which includes all the different factors affecting the health of the person and it includes social, physical, emotional, environmental, psychological and many other different types of factors.
The present campaign included the Couch to 5K which is a running plan for beginners who want to get involved in some of the physical activities. To maintain a better type of health the person needs to get involved in good physical activities so that overall development of the person takes place. When the person does physical activities and exercises then they will be in a better position to manage the work and ultimately the overall growth of the person will take place. This campaign majorly focuses on the biomedical model of health as it focuses on the effective increase in physical activities. This campaign was developed by Josh Clark who wanted to help his mother to get off the couch and start running. Her mother was around 50 and he planned a series of physical activities running for her (Get running with Couch to 5K, 2024). Within the plan, there were 3 runs a week and a day of rest in between and also a different schedule was set for every 9 weeks.
Indirectly, this model of health will also assist in compliance with the biopsychosocial model as well. This is because of the reason that when the physical health of the patient is improved then it will result in better improvement in another related aspect as well. Moreover, this biopsychosocial model is also used in cardiovascular diseases as well. this model assist in analysing the evidence relating to the different social connectedness, psychological quality of life, depression and many other related aspect which indirectly leads to person having different cardiovascular diseases (A Biopsychosocial Model Predicting Myocardial Infarction, 2024). This other related aspect includes improvement in social factors, emotional aspects, mental well-being and many other developments as well (Elagizi, Kachur, Carbone, Lavie, & Blair, 2020). When the person is working on physical health then automatically the overall development of the person will take place and ultimately the diseases and risk of CVD will be reduced. With effective compliance with physical activity, the risk of getting affected with CVD will reduce and ultimately it will result in controlling the blood pressure and reducing the risk of obesity and overweight as well. Thus, complying with the biomedical model of health will assist the healthcare professional to effectively work in the direction of health promotion.
Debate perspectives of health and the impact of health beliefs upon these
The health perspective is defined as the way with help of which individuals see and interpret the information related to health which can influence the behaviour and beliefs of the person. The perspective of health changes according to the person and their need. Every person is different and their perception relating to health is also different. Thus, there are different types of perspectives relating to the campaign Couch to 5K and it depends on different people and this depends on the person and how they see the campaign and their response to it (Garnvik, et al., 2020). The current campaign Couch to 5K was a good campaign which promoted the importance of physical activity for improving a healthy lifestyle and body. The major perspective that this campaign emphasised was that compliance with good physical activity boosts better physical maintenance of the body and this improves mental well-being as well. When the person is physically strong then automatically they will be working well and emotionally as well they will become strong. It is due to the reason that when the effective type of physical development takes place then eventually the emotional stability will also increase.
Along with this another health perspective of the current campaign of Couch to 5 K is that it assisted in boosting the morale of the people. With the campaign, it was clear that the within the Couch to 5K parkrunner major population was older and it included more females. With this, it is clear that with the campaign older people are also motivated to get involved in some physical activity so that they can effectively maintain good health. With this campaign, they came to know about the importance of staying physically fit and how it will help them stay healthy for a long (Lippi, Henry, & Sanchis-Gomar, 2020). Moreover, it also emphasises the health perspective of improving social health as well. It is due to the reason that when one person is getting the benefit of the campaign then they will communicate this with other people as well. Ultimately the other people will also connect with the campaign and ultimately the society will benefit. Thus, as a result of this around, 65 % of the parkrunners under the Couch to 5K programme reported positive impacts on the health of the person and ultimately it improves their lifestyle (How can UK public health initiatives support each other to improve the maintenance of physical activity? Evidence from a cross-sectional survey of runners who move from Couch-to-5k to Parkrun, 2023). When the person is physically fit then they will be in a better position to live their life and ultimately they will tend to live for more years. Further, when physical health is improved the chances of getting any kind of disease are also reduced and as a result of this, the overall development of the person takes place.
Further, this campaign also creates a positive impact on the lifestyle of the people as well. It is due to the reason that when effective types of physical activities are followed by people then they will be in a better position to live a healthy lifestyle and ultimately overall improvement will take place. Thus, there is a positive association between physical health and mental well-being. When the person is physically fit then the mental capability of the person will also be good. So this is another perspective which is improved with the current campaign of Couch to 5K. This simply means that when people are involved more in physical activity and exercises then automatically the mental state is improved (Shrivastav & Singh, 2024). Thus, as a result of this, the overall development of the person takes place and ultimately they are in a position to manage a healthy lifestyle. Thus, the current campaign of Couch to 5K creates a positive impact on different health perspectives which include physical health, mental well-being, emotional health and many other related aspects.
Examine the role of Public Health in the Health Professions
The public health is stated as the science which aims at improving and protecting the health of the community and the people. In improving the health within the society, the public health plays a crucial role in the working. The major role of public health is to promote and protect the health of the whole community so that a better environment free from disease can be maintained. Further, within society, the role of public health is to empower and acknowledge the individuals and the society to take charge or maintain good health. Public health trains the community and society that how they can manage and maintain better health and a good and healthy lifestyle.
Explore opportunities for health Promotion in today’s society
With the above analysis, it is clear that the current campaign Couch to 5K was a very good campaign which promotes the importance of physical health. When the physical health of the person is strong then the immunity will also be good and ultimately it will enhance the overall efficiency of the person (Strain, et al., 2020). Currently, according to their lifestyle, people are less involved in physical activities and exercising and as a result of this, they are suffering from many of the diseases. Also, according to the latest trends, obesity is increasing which is not good for the health of people. Thus, the present campaign plays a crucial role in managing public health. The current issues faced in managing good public health include obesity, new lifestyle trends and many other related aspects. All these issues create a negative impact on the health of the person and as a result, they are not capable of staying healthy. Thus, the current campaign of Couch to 5 K was very successful as when people get involved in this campaign they tend to develop an interest in physical exercise and activity and as a result, better health can be attained. This campaign is a better opportunity for developing public health as they will be promoting health and well-being within the community.
Reflection
The model Gibbs reflective cycle was created in the year 1988 by Graham Gibbs who was born in 1816 in New York. The reflection model proposed by him includes 6 different stages starting from description to action plan. I have used this model to reflect on the fact that how physical activity can improve the health of the person.
In the current context, my university wanted me to research the issues of CVD and how compliance with physical activity can assist in reducing the risk of CVD and other diseases as well. Further, I also had a personal interest in analysing the importance of complying with physical activities. This is necessary as when the person is physically strong then they will be in a better position to manage the working and ultimately will follow a healthy lifestyle.
Reflection Stage 2 – Description – (Feelings)
While working on the current project I felt that doing physical exercise and activities is very necessary. With the recent facts and figures relating to CVD, I felt that the disease is not good and it resulted in so many deaths all over the world. With this, I felt that with the modern lifestyle, people have become lethargic and as a result, they have become physically inactive which is not good for their health.
Reflection Stage 3 – Evaluation
Further with the evaluation I learnt that overall good experience was gained while working on this issue. With this project, I was able to increase awareness of people relating to physical exercise and as a result of this community welfare was promoted (Dempsey, et al., 2020). But the thing which was not good was the limitation of the time as the time provided to research was less and I was not capable enough to manage the whole work on time. But somehow I tried to accomplish the whole project on time and the results were good.
Reflection Stage 4 – Analysis
With further analysis, I evaluated that physical inactivity is the major cause of many of the different types of diseases and it also creates a negative impact on the health of the person. In the current modern lifestyle, this is a major area of concern as many people are facing the issues of CVD. With the experience of the current project, I learnt that compliance with effective exercising and physical activities will enhance the physical health of the person.
Reflection Stage 5 – Conclusion
At last, it is concluded that this whole project was a good learning experience relating to the campaign and the importance of physical activity. While working I analysed that I need to improve my research skills as well.
Stage 6 – Now What? (Action Plan)
Now after reflecting on learning I assessed that there is a requirement to learn two skills that is time management and researching skills. For the improvement of time management skills, the first thing I need to do is to work on prioritising the task effectively. When I can prioritise the task according to the deadline then I will be in a position to accomplish the task well. Further, to enhance my research skills I need to work on keyword searching (Garnvik, et al., 2020). This is due to the reason that when the keyword searching is done then in less time more accurate results will be found. This will assist me in finding more reliable and accurate information that in very little time.
