1. Choice of subject/topic
In my last NLP assignment, I decided to build upon my weakness in voicing out ideas when in meetings. This decision is rooted in a feeling of awkwardness each time one joins professional conversations especially when attempting to state an idea and support the thought coherently. This insecurity impacts my productivity making me frustrated and feeling like I am not useful at all. In addressing this need, I seek to advance my interpersonal communication skills as well as personal development in the areas of idea delivery in formal organizational environments.
However, the issue that hinders me when it comes to discussions is that I do not know the first thing about hesitating at the centre of the discussion and always doubt myself if I don’t prepare my thoughts logically or fail to make a plan under pressure(Bandler & Fit, 2013). This hesitation diminishes the way others view my competency and ultimately limits any chance to positively offer input. Hence, chronical stress is observed before and after discussions creating additional reasons for my silence in professional settings. It also means that I have little power in the team because I often do not get an opportunity to demonstrate newly acquired information or share my ideas(El-Ashry, 2021).
To analyse communication from the theoretical perspective of interpersonal communication, gestural communication is not only about the sending and receiving of messages but also about TEM and personality variables. The barriers I will be speaking to are the fear of what others may think or say, perfectionism, and a longing for approval which translate into hesitation and censorship. These barriers, I intend to tear these down using NLP techniques like reframing my self-talk and using the anchoring technique to induce a state of calm right in the centre of a storm. But through NLP I will be able to enhance my communication and thus be able to enhance the way I reason, as well as increase the confidence I produce in formal discussions at work, and in other fields I engage in(Triana & Yanti, 2020).
2. Define the Present State (PS) and the Desired State (DS)
Present State (PS):
At present, I often feel very self-conscious especially when speaking in meetings or any professional discourse. This is because my thinking is influenced by fear of judgment and perfectionism that results in questioning and thus my ideas are not clearly or incompletely communicated. Therefore, I get furious, underestimated, being deprived of an opportunity to demonstrate my capabilities. This creates a cycle of stress and disengagement when in fact everyone wants to fully participate in group contributions. This problem is unhelpful for my professional development since my communication difficulties reduce my power and engagement in the work environment(Srivastava, 2021).
Desired State (DS):
In the course of delivering this understanding, I want to be in a position to contribute to the meeting confidently and forcefully. The goal is to have the ability to be at ease, without any anxiety about what other people think or being able to control my thoughts and only focus on the positive, without the pressure of expectations. I would like to be able to convey messages effectively and convincingly and put into detail my understanding and analysis which will increase my credibility and development in the job market. I acknowledge the fact that when I get to this state, I will be in a position to be able to reason and contribute to the decisions to be made, besides, should be in a position to command the respect of my fellow workers in the workplaces out there. As a result, the transition will foster an Active Constructive Positive approach to the messages and communications exchanged in the workplace(Saranya et al., 2022).

Questions |
Responses |
Positive |
What is the positive aspect of your goal? |
The positive behavioural intent of my goal is that aiming to improve my communication skills will improve my relationship with other workers, increase my persuasiveness when discussing, and improve collaboration with other workers. Organization relations refer to how employees and employers interact with each other in the workplace, and when there is clarity, the result is normally positive(Deshwal et al., 2024). |
Own Part |
What is your contribution to achieving this goal? |
The positive aspect of my goal is that through the learning of communication skills effective relationships will improve specifically about colleagues, more influence in decisions and meetings, and better collaboration throughout the workplace. Effective communication, especially regarding channels of communication that lead to the establishment of good working relationships in an organization goes a long way in creating career mobility(Drigas et al., 2021). |
Specificity |
How specific is your goal? |
My goals are specific in that they target clear areas for improvement: better communication, more people’s engagement in the conversation, and control of emotions. For example, instead of saying I need to improve overall communication, I say I will explain two concepts during working sessions and implement some methods of dealing with stress and anxiety(Tian & Hu, 2016). |
Evidence |
What evidence will demonstrate you have achieved your goal? |
Received encouragement from coworkers about my input in meetings, greater engagement, and an assessment of my own anxiety levels when public speaking will all be signs that I've reached those objectives. I'll also keep a notebook in which I'll document instances of effective communication and my post-meeting self-evaluation(Tian & Hu, 2016). |
Resources |
What resources will you need? |
In order to meet these objectives, I would require either communication skills classes or lectures, presence in, speaking, and emotional quotient-related books or tools, and applications for relaxation or stress control. I will also look for people who can offer constructive criticism and help through my process of professional development. |
Size |
How significant is the goal? |
This is important since the gap between the two findings affects the quality of my professional growth and career contentment. Thus, personal communication skills will facilitate not only individual performance but also socio-performance by increasing the level of team performance decision-making, career mobility, and satisfaction. |

4. Case study
1. Chosen NLP Techniques
Anchoring
- Theoretical Development: Holding refers to a procedure whereby a certain expression is linked to a particular effect and these can include a touch or a word. It also builds what can be referred to as a positive feeling signal that can easily be called up to help an individual get a good feeling when in a difficult situation.
- Justification: The reason I opted for anchoring is to address fear and build confidence whenever in a position to speak in public. If I create a sense of touch, such as touching my thumb and forefinger together while learning how to relax my muscles and my mind, I can easily recall those feelings when I need to sit in a meeting(Oxford, 2015).
Reframing
- Theoretical Development: Reframing is the redefinition of a situation or way of thinking so as to derive a more positive explanatory framework. It can also work to decrease negative feelings as a result of some experiences as well as to increase positive feelings due to other experiences as well.
- Justification: I chose reframing to change the way I look at public speaking. Rather than concerning myself with the potential judgment I can change this focus to communication and cooperation, thereby diminishing my anxiety(Oxford, 2015).
Visualization
- Theoretical Development: Imagery as a method is a way for people to play out in their mind a particular experience, which results in increased confidence tied to an experience. This process invokes a picture palette to develop images of success.
- Justification: I decided to use visualization regarding meetings to get myself ready in advance. Since such visualization involves envisioning myself as speaking fluently and being applauded for my efforts it makes it easier to tackle the situation and lessen fear(Jim et al., 2024).
Meta Model Questions
- Theoretical Development: The Meta Model arises in ministerial discussions as a questioning approach to differentiate between unclear language and non-explicit assumptions. It was designed to question and refine stereotyped perceptions so that it would go beyond obvious observations.
- Justification: That is why I chose the Meta Model in order to improve the degree of clarity in the transfer of information. Another way of trying to make sure that I make relevant and concise contributions is to ask specific questions that will allow me to get details and comprehensive answers only if my questions are properly tailored will enhance our discussions(Abdullah et al., 2023).

3. Practical application
Technical Explanation of the Application
The practical aspect of the selected NLP techniques will involve tutor-led activities, which are further supplemented with exercises designed to enhance the understanding of the NLP concepts as well as the personal development of the individual in the context of communication. Every meeting will involve particular techniques, and it will begin with a brief overview of the theoretical background of selected approaches. For instance, before the anchoring session, I will make a plan to press the thumb and forefinger together while the body is at rest. From the process, I will learn to identify and counter triggers so that I can perform the conditioned response during embarrassing times such as public speaking. The reframing technique will consist of coaching sessions during which I will correct any negative biases I may have on speaking in public with positive assumptions. During the visualization session, I will be guided through a mental imagery of several successful trials in public speaking while using all the senses to develop more vivid and powerfully positive pictures. Last, in the Meta Model practice, SDS will perform structured dialogue exercises in the context of communication improvement by employing particular questioning patterns.
Keeping a Diary
To revise this process during the journey and reflect on experiences and findings, a reflective diary will be kept. This diary will act as a record of some sort to write about an experience after any session. I will mention what I have learned, my state of mind before and after practicing these techniques, and the circumstances under which I have used them at the workplace; for example, during meetings or discussions. This format will consist of emotional state notes, observations of applying the techniques, struggles encountered, and lessons from peers/mentors. The purpose of such a diary is, therefore, to heighten my understanding of myself and my communication behaviour so that I can identify areas of strength and weakness. This process will continue self-reflection which will improve my capacity to make changes and apply NLP tools to my day-to-day professional interpersonal interactions hence developing a learning organization.
Results and findings
Neuro-linguistic programming intervention based on the communication aspect and the objectives formulated concerning my behavioural patterns provided satisfactory results and upheld the findings. Reflecting on each of the week’s actions discussed in the eight-week plan, every session proved helpful in delivering not just insights but applications relevant to increasing my capacity to speak professionally and fluently. Among the key achievements, it was possible to highlight the proper application of the anchoring technique. By making, thus a physical reference point—putting the first two fingers of my right hand together— I was making myself feel calm and alert every time I found myself in high-pressure situations. Messages received from other members suggested that I had changed my behaviour in the course of the meetings as I was sharp and focused. Besides helping me gain a lot of confidence, the change also helped to break barriers within the team, thus facilitating an improved flow of ideas throughout the team. The reframing technique also was proven to be as effective. By changing my opinion about public speaking from threatening to challenge this attitude I feel less anxious about speaking in public. Day-to-day observation of change and in my reflective diary, I observed decreased incidences of negative self-stereotyping and accentuated positive affect related to idea-sharing. This positive attitude enabled me to have greater input in most of the meetings hence the increase in my meeting contribution rate/turnout. The visualization sessions helped amplify the preparedness to speak in public. The imagery was then used to set up imaginary positive presentations to enable me to change my performance and avoid the feelings of being judged. I had seen members commenting on the clarity of structure during my presentations with suggestions that my communication had become more articulate and persuasive. Also, as indicated by the findings, using the Meta Model questioning techniques helped encourage proper conversation during team meetings. Hence, the formulation of relevant questions helped me to make team members more communicative and effective in planning meetings. It was helpful for me and the team not only because it made my thinking more precise but also because – it seemed – people felt better understood. In conclusion, the databases suggest that the use of NLP techniques gives considerable improvements in communication. It is obvious that by applying anchoring, reframing, visualization, and the Meta Model, the problem that I had at first – insecurity – was turned into a positive characteristic. The above-structured action plan gives a direction on how to develop oneself and one can monitor one's progress via reflective practices.
Conclusion
Finally, the use of NLP brought a positive and tremendous change to the way I communicated thus overcoming my initial barrier of feeling uncomfortable. By carefully planned and facilitated handling sessions, which included anchoring, reframing, visualization, and the use of Meta Model questioning, I noticed a significant shift in the way I was able to share ideas and interact with other people on the job. Another facet of the study was the use of a reflective diary which enabled the oversight of the journey, retention, and consolidation of the learning. In this regard engaging with and harnessing the power of NLP has helped me to grow personally and professionally and I shall endeavour to remain receptive to personal and professional development to ensure that I continue to acquire and enhance my communication skills.
