The purpose of the chosen classroom activity? What?
The term “Emotional Resilience” refers to the ability to adapt to stressful situations and cope with the ups and downs that can come with professional and personal livelihood. The purpose of organizing classroom activities on building emotional resilience was to help the students in developing the capability to “bounce back” after a setback. For the classroom activity in the mentioned scenario, a team of three members (class fellows) was set up and asked to discuss their past failures, trauma, and how to get back from that scenario (Sergeant and Laws-Chapman, 2012). An in-depth discussion has also been arranged as classroom activities, where a chance has been given to every student to discuss the challenging scenario that they have faced in their lives how to overcome that situation, and who helped them to overcome it. As a whole, it can be stated that for the classroom activity on Building Emotional Scenario, both the group discussion and in-class discussion have been organized, so that the students can benefit from spending time with the development of this specific skill. The significance of designing the classroom activities on the chosen scenario is that, according to Lloyd et al., (2016), “emotional resilience can be taught, reinforced and practiced. In fact, in real-time, emotional resilience activity can be developed among the children through lessons including writing, reading, speaking, and listening and involving them in mini-lesson in classrooms”. During the classroom discussion program on the scenario “building emotional resilience”, the lesson has been segregated into several themes: safety, worry, anger, survivor, hurt, stigma, anxiety, and anger. This approach was helpful for us to choose one category and carry out discussions based on unique needs.
The significance of the scenario: So What?
The first thing that I have learned from this particular classroom activity is “ If I feel like I am in stress, building emotional resilience can be helpful for me to fight back". During the entire classroom activities on developing emotional resilience, I came to understand that, emotional resilience is an important and one of the most important abilities of any human being by means of responding to an unexpected or stressful situation or any crisis. During the ongoing process of the activities, I came to realize that be in professional livelihood or in personal lives, we are not free from challenges. During the activity or in-group discussion, I came to realize another thing our lives are full of uncertainty- and every single individual must face an unexpected scenario in every stage of life or at every step to move forward. In such a scenario, emotional resilience can help me to maintain strong control over emotions and respond to the situation promptly (Mohindru et al., 2023).
The skills or knowledge that I have earned from this specific classroom program or activity are as follows:
- Developing a sense of perspective: The classroom activity on building emotional resilience has helped to understand the importance of developing a prior idea about any upcoming scenario from a broader perspective. It will help me to be ready to be responsive in any situation/
- Practice positivity: In-group as well as classroom discussion on the challenging or upsetting situation that everyone has faced in some stage of life, made me understand that each of us is far stronger than we know. Therefore this classroom activity made me realize that we should try and appreciate ourselves for "how strong we are" and develop confidence that "I should get through the situation, whatever is happening" (Gogo et al., 2019).
During this classroom activity, I also realized that Resilience is important to develop as it can help me fight against various mental health conditions, like anxiety and depression. Resilience can also reduce the scope of onset and risk of mental health conditions, like stigma from being bullied, or prior trauma. Through this classroom activity, I also learned that if anyone has any existing mental health condition, then being emotionally resilient can help them develop coping abilities.
More importantly, this classroom activity has also helped me not only learn about the nitty-gritty of building emotional resilience but also made me understand the way to improve my ability. For example, group discussion and in-depth communication with friends within the group and educators in class helped me understand that "getting connected" is one of the important ways to build and improve emotional resilience ability (Vakilzadeh and Haase, 2021). The group discussion with the class and fellows made me realize that I have the necessity to develop strong (verbal) communicative skills and approach so that I can build a strong and positive relationship with my surroundings. This can provide me with support, guidance and mass acceptance in good or bad times. Another important skill that, I was lacking, is time management. The group discussion on developing emotional resilience helped me understand the importance of developing time management skills and how to use those skills to make every day meaningful. With proper time management skills and a planning approach, I can carry out my regular activities in a productive way and can meet the desired outcome on time, which in turn can restrict the sudden outbreak of unexpected situations or crises at work to a considerable extent (Marshall and Gigliotti, 2020). Though, this classroom activity has helped me understand that I have good motivational attributes along with empathy. During the group discussion, when my fellows used to hesitate to share their personal experiences, I motivated them and made them feel free to express their thoughts.
Now What?
Considering my contribution to the class activity on the scenario of building emotional resilience, I have realised my strengths and limitations.
Strengths:
- Strong motivational ability
- Good listening skills and empathy (Chow et al., 2020)
- Good and positive tone of voice
- Team-working approach
Limitations:
- Lack of verbal communication- lack of good interactive skill
- Lack of ability to develop or continue in-depth discussions within the team
- Lack of planning ability
- The necessity to strengthen time management skill
- Need the development of team management skills and ability
Considering all my strengths and weaknesses, the following will be my action plan:
- Developing and practicing communication skills through practice. Good communication and interaction with a positive flow can help me to understand people and their mindset in-depth, which in turn can help me develop a good relationship with my surroundings and develop a team for any work
- Investing in collaboration will be my another action plan, to develop my planning ability and team management skill. Collaboration can also help me to develop my communication or interactive skill, which in my professional career can help me to express my idea about any subject matter in an elaborate way (Chang and Chen, 2020).
- Practice learning group norms and implement them in real time. This action plan can help me not only to develop a leadership approach within a team but also help me to maintain an ethical aspect when it comes to proceeding with any work, be it individually or with a team (Rider et al., 2019).
Career Plan
The intended career Path:
A career path can be defined as a list of steps taken in professional life to progress towards playing more advanced roles in work. My desired career path in the future is to become a business entrepreneur. The reason behind choosing this career for the future or suitability to choose this particular career for me is my adopted or existing skills and attributes. Throughout my educational career, I realized that, though I have the necessity to strengthen my verbal communication and time management or team management skills, I have creative and critical thinking abilities (Rider et al., 2019). Additionally, I am valiant, with good technical knowledge. This classroom activity made me realize that I have quite good control over my emotions and have propounded stress management ability- which is considered to be some important features of becoming a good entrepreneur. Additionally, I always want to create new businesses and become a source of new ideas, goods, business processes, and services for society.
The areas of regulatory, professional, and organizational standards that relate to the chosen career path and its importance
Regulatory, professional, and organizational standards related to business entrepreneurship include business registration, licensing, inspection, copyrights and property rights, and so on. These standards play an important role in creating a contestable market and can support productivity, business gains, and growth. To do business or to become an entrepreneur, it should be important to have in-depth knowledge and understanding of UK business law and regulation along with standards. For example, the General Data Regulation and Data Protection Act, 679/2016 referred that a business should ensure that it has the proper arrangement for processing personal data and regulation on the free movement of the data (GDPR) while dealing with the personal information of the customers (Mohindru et al., 2023). On the other hand, Business taxation standards are also important to understand for me, as I am planning to kick start my career in the business field to fulfill my desired career path. IR 35 refers to "off-payroll working, where a business should be liable to assess the status of contractors, whom the business can appoint as an intermediary. From 2018, in the UK the national Living wages and National Minimum wages have been increased. While this is good news for the workers, many small companies need to make a plan to meet this new regulation. Additionally, to become a successful entrepreneur, it should be important to have profound knowledge about the gender pay gap, pension contribution, employee wage rate, customer satisfaction, and service standards to provide responsible and productive business to society.
According to UK business standards, to kick start a career as a business entrepreneur, it should be important to know that the first step of becoming an entrepreneur is to identify the type and category of the company and get it registered. The importance of getting the license for the company under the sole trader limited company, or doing a partnership are some important business standards and decisions that are important to take when it comes to becoming a good business entrepreneur. Another important standard in business is the registration process- where the most important standard or element is to make the company insured (Lloyd et al., 2016). To become a successful entrepreneur the foremost importance is to know the legal requirement of doing business in the UK. This knowledge and understanding about doing business can help to increase the productivity of the business as well as can also help me to maintain a good and skilled workforce within the workplace, who can contribute towards the growth of the business process. This will also help me to become a good entrepreneur in the future.
Knowledge of regulatory, professional, and organizational standards
“Innovation is the fundamental ingredient of business and becoming a successful entrepreneur". Prior, the focus has already been given to the major regulatory and professional standards to become a successful entrepreneur. In this section, the focus will be given on the action plan by following which I can develop and strengthen my idea and knowledge about the important regulatory and professional standards related to business in the UK. Firstly, to become a successful entrepreneur in the future, it would be important for me to develop several soft skills, like strengthening my communication knowledge and command, developing skills and attributes like time management, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking skills. And most importantly I have to develop good leadership attributes so that I can handle large workforces within my business and profitably run the organization.
The development of these skills is important to strengthen my knowledge of organizational standards. While I develop my leadership skills and thinking ability, I can understand the importance of managing ethical rules and regulations within a workplace setup, which is important for retaining a strong and efficient workforce or a team. Therefore, to develop the knowledge and understanding of regulatory, and professional standards of business, I can join or adopt the UK Innovation Strategy, where the UK government is committed to supporting innovation within UK companies and future entrepreneurs. Additionally, I can also join online courses, to develop my verbal communication skills and interactive skills. I can also join online classes and can take help from my educators to develop my creative thinking skills, research, and analytical knowledge. Taking active participation in a group presentation or group discussion can help me to develop team development skills and knowledge as well as interactive skills to a considerable extent (Sergeant and Laws-Chapman, 2012). For developing knowledge and understanding of the regulatory, professional,l and organizational standards in business, the UK innovation strategy program and action plan will be suitable. This program is based on five themes: future economy, growth at scale, global business opportunities, innovation and ecosystem, and government levers.
