Activity 1
Explain how the key characteristics of active support differ from the hotel model
Active support refers to the person centred model that focuses on the providing assistance to the individual’s for carrying out all the activities (Dineen-Griffin et al, 2019). The hotel model is the care provision which is the combination of hospitality with non-acute care that aids at increasing satisfaction of the individual. The both type of care concept are aiming at helping patient bur there are some dissimilates between the hotel model and active support which are as follows:

Staffs in hotel model are focuses’ on completing all the household chores and emphasis over undertaking all the activities by themselves (Li and Zhuang, 2020). Staff members are focusing on providing leisure activities to the individual. |
Engagement |
In active support, individuals are highly engaged in the all the activities as patient are motivate to do work with other person. |
Under hotel model, individual feel disengaged as staff member complete all the work and they are no left with nay task to be completed. Further staff members did not communicate with individual that result in developing felling of disengaged. |
Service criteria |
In active support, the service quality is analysed on the basis of quality of life. Under this the relationship are valued and the person experiences and satisfaction are crucial element for identify service quality. |
In the hotel mode services quality is evaluated on the basis of cleanliness in house, timely completion of the domestic task and personal care of the individual. |
Independence |
Under active support model, individuals are provided with independence and right to decide on the activities which they need to complete (Newington, Alexander and Wells, 2021). In this individual are allotted with the opportunity to develop their skills and competencies. |
In the hotel model, individual are dependent on staff to complete their routine work and skills are not develop to promote independence. |
Decision power |
The decision making power in active support model is lies with the patient. Individual are involved in planning what needs to be done and have power to guide staff regarding the activities. |
Under hotel model, individual does not have power to decide what to be done. Staff member themselves plan for all the activities and complete the task without the involvement of other person. |
Free not food |
Under active support, individual are provided freedom to decide on their food timing and have option to plan for their diet. |
In the hotel model, patient has no choice regarding the timing or the type of food they need to consume (Schot, Tummers and Noordegraaf, 2020). |

Promoting independence |
This refers to the process of supporting individual for developing new skills and competencies that support them to do their task on their own. Further, this refers to the activities that help patients to reach their full potential and support in increasing participation in community and social activities (Tian et al, 2019). Under this, focus is paid over developing the resilience, and confidence skill of the individual and emphasis on determining strengths of the individuals. |
Informed choice |
Informed choice refers to the process of the developing adequate amount of knowledge within individual that aids in taking effective and adequate decision (Ungar and Theron, 2020). This includes providing all the potential options to individual, aligning them with their values and take decision after critically analyse all the provided options. |
Valued life |
A valued life indicates the life in which individual’s personal dignity is promoted by providing them support and respect to make their own decision and choices (Wiig et al, 2020). This refers to the balance of various vocational, domestic, and personal, leisure and educational activities that contribute towards enhancing quality of life. |

Q1. Explain how you used active support to promote independence, informed choice and a valued life
Active support plays a crucial role in promoting independence, informed choice and valuated life to the individual. Gibbs reflective model will be used to share my past experiences through which I have determine the benefits and usefully of active support concept. After evaluating the six step cycle I have identified that people are able to develop new skills due to active support (Gibbs‘s reflective model, 2022). I was allotted the task of providing active support to the 50 year old woman who was recovering from the paralysis. She was unable to completely move her left side of the body but she has high motivation to indulge in daily chores. I was involved towards providing her necessary assistance so that she cloud completes her task by her own. I was focusing on suggesting different measures and ways through which she could complete the entire task by her own. She was able to wash her one clothes with the right hand, cut vegetable and capable in preparing her own food. I used to help her in drying clothes; cleaning utensils accompany her to the park and market. By supporting the woman in undertaking all her tasks on her owns, I was able to promote independence. This help in developing the feeling of inclusion as she was involved in undertaking all the activities and has choice to decide on the activities which she need to do.
She was not dependent on me to complete her basic task that result in promoting independence within the individual. Active support help in promoting informed choices to the patients as active support help in development new skills and competences’ that open scope for undertaking more activities. By defining various measures for completing the task I was able to develop confidence of woman to undertake all the activities. These measures make her capable to undertake large number of that result in providing informed choices to take decisions. I practically demonstrated various activities which she could do which help in enhancing her knowledge and understanding regarding particular task and help her in taking effective decision regarding the task.
This help in promoting the informed choices to the individual that results in enhancing quality of life. Further, I have determined that active support helps in promoting value of life by providing opportunity to take own decision and support in making effective choice. By undertaking the entire routine task, the woman has developed confidence to take her own decision that help in promoting value of life. She was able to analysed her capability based on which decision are taken for performing any activities which help in enhancing overall satisfaction that results in enhancing mental health. In such a manner, the active support help individual in promoting independences, develop value of life and support in making informed choice.
Q2. Describe how you incorporated the three elements of positive interaction that promoted the individual’s participation in the activity

Q3. Describe changes in the individual’s participation over time
The active support plays a crucial role in changing individuals’ participation within the activities. At the initial level, while providing support to the woman she lacks confidences to undertaken activities and have fear that her health condition may be deteriorated due to such activities. This restricts her to actively participate in activities and negatively impact on overall well-being of the individual. I was involved in communicating with her and focus on creating effective relationship with her that results in enhancing her trust and confidence. With the passing time, she start undertakes some chores activities while sitting which includes cutting vegetable which help in promoting a sense of independence for her. After some time, she wants to come to kitchen to involve in the process of food preparation but she was not comfortable to stand for longer period.
I have bring a table and chair to the kitchen that help her in effectively monitor and involve in the daily activities and support in enhancing overall involvement in the daily activities. After some time she got involved in the food preparation activity that help in increasing her participation over time. Her motivation and courage help her in completing the entire task on her own that results in enhancing overall participation level. I have identified that she was not confident enough to undertaken outdoor activities on her own. For increasing outdoor participation, I have started taking her to the parks and the local market areas which support in developing the sense of independence. This encourage her to go for the morning walk which help in improving her physical health that result in increasing overall participation in various activities.
