Introduction to Physiology Assignment
INTRODUCTION
The study of physiology is defined as how the human body works when the person is healthy and when is unhealthy. It includes the discussion relating to the physical and chemistry which underlies behind working of the basic body functions. It can also be termed as the branch of biology which focuses on developing an understanding of mechanisms that how living organisms live and work. The current study will be evaluating the case of Alex who is suffering from many different issues. It is necessary to evaluate the physical health of the person so that better decisions can be taken for improving the working position and health of the person. The current study will undertake a physical health check of Alex and try to identify the risk factors relating to one potential disease. At last, recommendations will be provided for improving the health of the person.
MAIN BODY
Brief overview of Alex’s health background and lifestyle
In the current case, Alex is a 32-year-old office worker who lives alone and has a very sedentary and hectic lifestyle. It is due to the reason that there are long working hours in the office and also experiences poor sleep. Moreover, due to long working hours, Alex is not able to meet the requirements of a healthy diet. Also, he is not able to meet his friends and family and as a result, does not have time to socialise. Further, Alex also smoked tobacco for 15 years and again started to vape regularly. Alex also drinks alcohol regularly every night thinking that he will be relieved from stress and will be able to sleep well. With the help of the medical history, it was seen that there is a family history of heart attack and hepatitis A and C along with lung cancer and liver cirrhosis. All these aspects imply that Alex is not at all having a good and healthy lifestyle. This impacts the working of Alex and he is not able to maintain a good and happy life.
Evaluating the physical health of Alex
With the evaluation of the brief overview of the situation of Alex, it is clear that there are lot many different issues faced by him. This is majorly faced by him because he is not following a healthy lifestyle. This implies that Alex is not having a good and healthy lifestyle and as a result, it impacts the working efficiency greatly. Thus, analysing the different factors affecting the physical and mental health of the person needs to be evaluated well so that some improvements can be made (Kenney, Wilmore and Costill, 2022). Concerning the case of Alex, their lifestyle was not at all good. It was due to the reason that because of long working hours, he was not able to get enough sleep. Having enough sleep is very necessary for maintaining a good and healthy life. When Alex is having good sleep then it will be assistive to the company in managing and maintaining a good life.
Another issue faced by Alex was that due to the extended working hours, he was also not able to maintain a good and healthy diet. Having a high level of nutrients and other vitamins, proteins and other healthy intake is very necessary for the better functioning of the body. The nutrients and related elements act as fuel for the body to operate well. In case, Alex does not have having good intake of nutrients and related elements then will not be physically fit and their immune system will also become weak (Talaulikar, 2022). So with this, it is clear that to have a good and healthy life it is necessary to have good food which will boost the immune system and will give better energy to the person. Thus, in case Alex needs to improve his condition then the appropriate intake of nutrients and other related elements must be made. A good and healthy diet will be assistive to Alex in having and maintaining a good life and the negative effects can be reduced.
Along with this another issue faced by Alex was that he is having the habit of consuming alcohol and tobacco and as a result, it can create a huge impact on the health of the person. This is because of the reason that when the habit of drinking and smoking is not stopped then it will affect the health of a person greatly. The reason underlying the fact is that when too much alcohol is consumed then it has serious health consequences like cardiovascular disease, gastric ulcer, cancer and many other different liver diseases (Colin et al, 2021). Hence, as a result of this habit, there is a potential chance of developing some diseases which can affect the whole body of Alex.
Hence, for Alex, it is necessary that they try to consider all the potential health conditions and accordingly try to improve the working. In case better elements will not be maintained well then it will create a negative impact on the health capability of the person (Jafar and Sitther, 2021). So for this, it must be the prime responsibility of Alex that he must follow all the healthy alternatives so that he is capable of living a healthy and happy life.
Identification of risk factors
With the above evaluation of physical health and lifestyle of Alex, it is clear that he is not following a healthy lifestyle. Thus, it is the responsibility of Alex that he must try to understand that the lifestyle he is following can lead to many serious health concerns. Thus, the most common issue or disease which he might face relating to the current lifestyle and working pattern is the chance of incurring cardiovascular diseases (Slocum and Flores, 2024). The current lifestyle is not at all good and as a result of this, there are high chances that Alex might face some cardiovascular diseases. Thus, there are many different kinds of risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases which might affect the working of the body to a great extent. Thus, there are certain types of risk factors related to cardiovascular diseases which Alex might face if he continues the same lifestyle and living pattern. These risks are as follows-
- The most common risk factor is the family history that is if the person has some family history of diseases then it might be possible that it goes forward with the genes. With the evaluation of the medical history of Alex, it was clear that he has a family history of heart attacks, liver diseases and also lung cancer. Thus, the habit of intense consumption of tobacco and alcohol can lead to heart-related disease and other lung diseases as well.
- Another risk factor related to heart disease is physical inactivity which implies that the person is not physically fit and is not doing any kind of exercise or any other physical activity. This is another factor which can lead to an increase in chances of getting heart diseases and other related diseases as well. In the current case, Alex is not involved in any physical exercise gyming or any other related thing. Thus, as a result of this, Alex must try to start some physical exercises and try to overcome the risk of getting heart disease.
- Further, another associated risk factor with the heart disease is the high blood pressure and cholesterol as well. This is because of the reason that if there are chances that the person will face some of the issues relating to heart disease then there is related chance that other diseases might increase like blood pressure, cholesterol and many other related aspects (Cardiovascular disease, 2025).
- Moreover, the increase in chances of getting infected with heart disease can also cause an increase in diabetes and chronic kidney disease as well. Due to the unhealthy lifestyle, there are chances that Alex might get infected with diseases like diabetes, kidney diseases and many other types of issues (Moro et al, 2021). Hence, this kind of lifestyle might increase the chances of getting other diseases like diabetes and kidney diseases resulting in cardiovascular diseases.
- Moreover, another risk included is the chance of getting indulged in high obesity. This is a major issue or concern which is related to the lifestyle of Alex. It is necessary for the reason that in the current situation, Alex does not indulge in any physical exercise and also does not have any healthy diet (Drucker, 2022). This will increase the chances of becoming obese which in turn will increase the chances of other serious health consequences.
Hence, it can be stated that not following a healthy life can increase in chances of getting infected with many of the diseases. Thus, to become successful, it is necessary and crucial that an effective type of good and healthy lifestyle is followed.
Recommendations relating to proposed evidence-based strategies
With the above case evaluation of Alex, it is clear that there are many different kinds of issues and unhealthy lifestyles followed by him. This bad lifestyle and working pattern has highly increased the chances of having diseases like cardiovascular, diabetes, cholesterol, diabetes and many more strategies. Hence, some of the recommendations it provided to Alex so that he can try to overcome all the risk factors and must be able to revive its better health back. Hence some of the suggestions for improving the working and health of the person are as follows-
- Firstly it is recommended to Alex that he must ensure that he uptakes a healthy lifestyle so that the overall life can be improved. It is due to the reason that when the overall lifestyle of the person is healthy then automatically the capability to deal with any of the issues will be improved (Noushad et al, 2021). For this, ensuring proper and sufficient intake of nutrients and another kind of healthy aspect is necessary. Also, it is required for Alex to implement a good diet chart so that all the requirements of the body can be included in the study effectively.
- Further, it is advisable for to Alex he must start indulging in going to the gym and start exercising. This is necessary because when physical activity is included in the schedule then it will be helpful to him in making a better schedule and will help create a better life (Yu et al, 2022). Moreover, with indulgence in physical activities, Alex can also have a better work-life balance which will motivate him to work with more efficiency.
- Moreover, it is advisable to Alex that he must try to control and reduce the consumption of alcohol and tobacco. This habit of consuming alcohol and tobacco is very dangerous and can create a life-threatening impact on the health of the person. Thus, Alex must try to reduce the consumption of such factors. For this, Alex can attend some self-control classes so that he can try to control the consumption of these elements. Also, he can enrol in the initiatives organised by the government and social care to reduce the consumption of alcohol and related elements (Cook and Shepherd, 2024). There are many different initiatives and campaigns run by the government of the country and other social care organisations. Thus, Alex must try to attend the campaign so that the habit of consuming alcohol and other things can be reduced easily.
CONCLUSION
At last, it can be concluded that understanding physiology is the study of how the human body works and whether the person is healthy or not. To have a healthy life it is necessary for the person they be physically fit and strong so that they can live a better and healthy life. The above analysis included the evaluation of Alex’s unhealthy life and how it resulted in the development of different risk factors. The risk factors included an increase in chances of getting BP, diabetes, cholesterol and many other different kinds of diseases. At last, some recommendations for improving the position of Alex were provided like indulging in physical activity, having a good and nutritious diet and many other different strategies.
